In the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), players can have a maximum of five Pokémon on their Bench, which are the Pokémon that are not currently active in battle. However, swapping a Pokémon from the Bench with one in your hand is not as straightforward as it may seem.

According to the rules, you cannot simply swap a Pokémon from your Bench with one from your hand at any time. Instead, you can retreat your Active Pokémon (the one currently in battle) to the Bench and then bring a Pokémon from your Bench into the Active position. This retreating action usually requires you to pay a retreat cost, which is indicated on the Active Pokémon's card. After retreating, you can then promote a different Pokémon from your Bench to the Active position.

Additionally, certain cards and abilities may allow you to switch Pokémon in other ways, such as through specific Trainer cards or Pokémon abilities that enable you to swap or switch Pokémon without paying the retreat cost. Always check the specific card text for any special conditions or effects.
