Why Can’t I Place Certain Cards or EX Cards on the Board?
Understanding the rules for playing cards in the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
Card Placement Rules
In the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), there are specific rules regarding which cards can be played onto the board. Generally, you can only play Pokémon cards that meet certain criteria based on their type and the current game state.
1. **Basic Pokémon vs. Evolution Pokémon**: You can only place Basic Pokémon directly onto your Bench or into the Active spot. Evolution Pokémon, such as Stage 1 or Stage 2 Pokémon, must be played on top of their corresponding Basic Pokémon. If you have an Evolution Pokémon in your hand but do not have the Basic Pokémon it evolves from in play, you cannot place it on the board.
2. **EX Cards**: Pokémon-EX cards are a specific type of Pokémon card that have unique rules. You can play a Pokémon-EX card if it is a Basic Pokémon or if you have the corresponding Basic Pokémon already in play. If you have an EX card in your hand but do not meet these conditions, you cannot place it on the board.
3. **Game State Restrictions**: Certain game states may also restrict your ability to play cards. For example, if your Active Pokémon is affected by a Special Condition (like Sleep or Confusion), you may not be able to retreat it to play another Pokémon.
